The Government Commission on Federal Communications and Information Technology is a coordinating body established to provide concerted actions of federal bodies of executive authority in the field of development and improvement of federal communications and information technologies.

The commission is tasked with the following responsibilities: to outline priorities for the development of federal communications with regard to public administration, national defence, state security and law enforcement, as well as communications in economic, financial and other national resources; to coordinate the work of federal bodies of executive authority in developing Russia's information and telecommunications networks and their integration into international networks; to coordinate the work of federal bodies of executive authority to meet the demands of federal communications and technology issues of informatisation; to coordinate the work of federal bodies of executive authority in drafting concepts as well as federal, inter-industry and industrial programmes for the development and improvement of the country's information, telecommunications and other relevant networks.
